Position: GC Analyst
Location: Bedford
Type: Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £23,000 - £27,000

We are looking for an experienced GC-MS analyst, ideally with a background in the analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), to join our talented team of Analytical Chemists.

As an experienced GC Analyst, you'll be familiar with your typical responsibilities across the entire analytical process - from sample extraction to data analysis and reporting of results. You will be responsible for running a range of methods for the identification and quantification of environmental contaminants, primarily using GC-MS. You may also need to work in the Lab conducting the sample extraction, as required. Given the rapidly changing nature of the industry, there may also be a requirement to work with senior colleagues to develop methods for novel and/or emerging environmental contaminants in line with industry and commercial requirements.

Your acquired skills and experience will enable you to take the lead in the VOC work area and have direct input into method development and validation as well as maintaining documentation. You will be responsible for the preparation of samples, as well as the analysis and reporting of data in accordance with ISO17025.

Key Responsibilities
- Follow established procedures to perform trace organic analysis on a wide range of samples/matrices.
- Operate primarily GC-MS instrumentation, including headspace GC-MS, together with other laboratory equipment, as required.
- Work with extraction staff within the laboratory to ensure samples are prepared for analysis according to customer requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of GC-MS instrumentation.
- Prepare samples, solutions and reagents following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Process and interprets analytical results for entry onto LIMS.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.

About you
You'll have
- A strong background in the use of GC-MS for the analysis of VOCs.
- Experience working within a fast-paced, commercial analytical testing laboratory.
- Demonstrable experience with the routine maintenance and troubleshooting of GC-MS systems.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at different levels within an organisation.

Ideally you may have
- Experience working within an ISO17025 accredited, environmental-testing laboratory.
- Experience using Agilent Chemstation and Masshunter software.
