Principal Ecologist
Cambridge, Cardiff, Derby, Southampton


Position: Principal Ecologist
Based: Cardiff, Derby or Cambridge
Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Position:

RPS is looking for a Principal Ecologist to grow, manage and support the ecological team in Cardiff delivering master planning inputs, ecological appraisals, ornithological surveys and studies, other protected species surveys, mitigation design and construction and post-construction supervision and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Recruitment and Leadership
Generating and effectively managing new business
Project managing a wide and varied workload and supervising field staff and survey effort
Undertaking site surveys
Liaising with clients to develop lasting relationships
Ecological Impact Assessment
Habitats Regulations Assessment
Ecological Mitigation Design and Implementation
Staff Mentoring and Management
Financial planning and Management
Technical Oversight and sign-off of Project Outputs

Skills/Experience Required:

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
CIEEM membership (Full)
Established ecological consultant with bat experience working in ecological consultancy
An ability to plan and undertake habitat surveys to a high standard and to identify indicator plant species and habitat types
Full knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation and best practice survey techniques
Demonstrable experience working as an ecological consultant and project management experience
Line management and client relationship management skills
Knowledge of the industry and professional consultancy
Full driving licence
