Ornithologist/GIS (Offshore)

Position: Consultant Offshore Ornithologist/GIS
Location: Flexible
Type: Permanent/Full Time

The Position:

RPS is looking for an experienced ornithologist to join the UK Ecology team. The role?s technical focus is ornithology services for infrastructure projects (particularly offshore renewable energy) and you will have the opportunity to support coastal developments, road, airport and other marine projects as well as assessing offshore ornithological impacts.

You will need to have expertise in modelling and statistics relevant to understanding bird distribution, collision risk and impacts, using GIS, population modelling and programming (r, python or alternative).

The role supports our ornithological team to coordinate and deliver ornithology surveys, impact assessments, mitigation design, EIA and HRA?s all in accordance with best practice and managing new business. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated individual who is looking to make a difference and share our client focused philosophy of delivering high quality professional consultancy service.

Key Responsibilities:
? Project managing a wide and varied workload and supervising field staff and survey effort
? Undertaking site surveys
? Liaising with clients to develop lasting relationships
? Ornithological Impact Assessment
? Habitats Regulations Assessment and EcIA
? Ecological Mitigation Design and Implementation
? Project planning and Management

Skills/Experience Required:
? MSc or equivalent in ecology or closely related discipline
? CIEEM membership (Graduate/Associate)
? Established ecologist with proven technical and project management experience
? Numerate with experience in modelling and statistics relevant to understanding bird distribution, collision risk and impacts, using GIS, population modelling and programming (r, python or alternative).
? An ability to plan and undertake the full range of surveys and other habitat surveys to a high standard and to identify indicator plant species and habitat types
? Full knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation and best practice survey techniques
? Demonstrable experience working as an ornithologist
? Full driving licence
