Principal Consultant – Built Energy & Sustainability
Full-Time, Permanent

About the role:

RPS is looking for a Principal Consultant or Associate Director to work out our flagship London office (EC4) within our Built Energy and Sustainability team. You will work within a highly regarded, well established and dynamic team on the provision of sustainability and energy assessments on new, existing and operational buildings. We provide a range of assessments (Energy Reports, Overheating Assessments, Daylight Analysis, BREEAM Assessments, Sustainability Statements) to a multitude of clients. Responsibilities include the completion of energy calculations and sustainability assessments, data interpretation and analysis, site visits and surveys, regulatory consultations and report writing.

This role will enable you to lead on a variety of projects with potential for growth and development within an award-winning team. You’ll need to have excellent technical understanding and solid experience in sustainability and energy assessments within the built environment, particularly in the context of new and existing buildings.

We are looking for strong energy experience and associated accreditations (preferably LCC, OCDEA/NDEA, ESOS) with understanding in carrying out Energy Calculations (SBEM and/or SAP) and associated project management and reporting. Experience in IES software is preferable. Knowledge of Daylight / Sunlight Assessments, Overheating Analysis and Thermal Bridging calculations is advantageous.

Experience/skills required:

• Solid and passionate understanding of sustainability, energy technologies and building physics.
• Sustainability reporting e.g. Sustainability Statements and BREEAM accreditations.
• Preparation of technical reports.
• Project management - team coordination, budgeting, proposal writing and reporting.
• Line management, contributing to staff training & progression of junior staff.
• Client liaison (e.g. meetings, presentations) and key client account management.
• Business Development - to actively seek new commercial opportunities (clients and markets), including opportunities in the wider RPS Group.
• Commercial awareness.
• A clear, positive and effective communicator.
• Enthusiastic, flexible and confident personality.
• Demonstrable solid technical knowledge of current and future legislation in relation to UK law and best practice – especially NPPF, Part L and London Plan.
• Extensive experience of carrying out sustainability and energy assessments on a range of projects, preferably within a consultancy context.
