Design Engineer

RPS Water is looking for a Design Engineer to join their Technical office at Kirkintilloch, Glasgow.

Role and Responsibilities
The Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the delivery of clean water infrastructure projects and programmes of work under the direction of the Project Manager (PM) within our Design Team.

Role Summary:
• Support PM on water infra design projects from conception to detailed design
• Review designs and provide support to design team members
• Oversee day to day running of design related tasks on water infra design projects

Main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Development of clean water pipeline design throughout feasibility and detailed design stages
• Undertake as-laid survey and preparation of drawing
• Provide support/technical assistance in the preparation of technical reports and documents, drawings and design calculations
• Assist with the preparation of proposals
• Maintain and review technical quality, ensuring designs meet client and industry specification
• Liaison with Clients, Stakeholders & Contractors to develop strong working relationships and collaborative working
• Operate in accordance with the corporate health and safety, environmental and quality standards
• Prepare and issue weekly progress updates to PM and/or clients
• Attend and contribute to project meetings internally and with clients
• Manage own workload and workload of other team members
• Delegate tasks to other team members as appropriate

Essential Competencies, Qualifications & Experience
• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
• Working knowledge of the water industry or utilities background
• Experience operating in a water design related role
• Computer literate - Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages
• Ability to work well both in a team and independently
• Highly organised and able to multi-task
• Ability to understand technical aspects of the project, predominantly from a civil/hydraulic aspect
• Ability to make decisions and to prioritise and manage conflicting demands
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Basic knowledge of GIS Systems

Desirable Competencies/Qualifications
• Full Clean Driving Licence
• Previous use of Strumap or similar software
• Waste water infrastructure design experience
• Hold a valid EUSR National Water Hygiene Card
• Hold a valid EUSR DOMS (Distribution, Operations, Maintenance, Strategy) Card
