Ecology Consultant
Cambridge, Derby, Southampton


Position: Ecologist
Type: Permanent, Full-Time


The Position:

RPS are looking for an experienced consultant level Ecologist to join our Southampton Ecology Team to win and manage projects and coordinate survey and assessment tasks on a wide range of projects.

Your role will be to assist the Technical Director taking on and independently undertaking a wide range of project tasks. You will undertake more general ecological appraisals, protected species surveys, mitigation design and construction and post-construction supervision and monitoring. You’ll be responsible for the management of project work, particularly your own technical assessments and reporting outputs, together with establishing and the maintaining ongoing client relationships.

Key responsibilities:

• Assisting the Technical Director by undertaking a wide range of project tasks as and when required.

• Undertaking general ecological appraisals, protected species surveys, mitigation design and construction and post-construction supervision and monitoring.

• Managing the project work within the office, particularly technical assessments and reporting outputs, together with establishing and the maintaining ongoing client relationships.

Skills/expertise required:

• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
• CIEEM membership (Associate / Full)
• Established ecological consultant with bat experience
- An ability to plan and undertake habitat surveys to a high standard and to identify indicator plant species and habitat types
• Full knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation and best practice survey techniques
• Demonstrable experience working as an ecological consultant
• Knowledge of the industry and professional consultancy
• Full driving licence
