Senior Marine Environmental Consultant
London, Woking

RPS helps our clients consent and undertake environmental assessments of major energy infrastructure projects, in the renewable (offshore wind, wave and tidal energy), transmission infrastructure and coastal/marine power generation and storage sectors. We also help our clients deliver consent for other major marine and coastal infrastructure.

The marine and consenting team has an opportunity for a Senior Marine Environmental Consultant to be based from London or Woking on a full time basis (other RPS office locations may be considered for the right candidate).

This role will see you supporting the delivery of large-scale marine and coastal infrastructure projects, in the following areas:
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) coordination and delivery
• Stakeholder meetings and preparation of materials to support external consultation, including the Evidence Plan Process and Examination Phase of Development Consent Order (DCO) projects
• Liaison internally with planning, offshore technical and onshore EIA RPS teams
• Technical review and/or delivery of reports and quality assurance of deliverables
• Provide support on associated assessments e.g. Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Water Framework Directive (WFD), European Protected Species (EPS) and Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) Assessments
• Provision of marine and environmental consenting and planning advice
• Post-consent compliance
• Programme management to ensure delivery programme is maintained

In addition to building relationships with statutory consultees and other groups/members of the public,
cultivating new business opportunities alongside the RPS management team and mentoring & managing the RPS multi-disciplinary team personnel.

Skills, experience & qualifications required
• Post-graduate qualification in a relevant environmental discipline
• Membership or chartered status of a relevant professional institute
• Direct experience, or at least familiarity with, the requirements of the Planning Act 2008 and the DCO process in England and Wales
• Experience:
o in leading and coordinating EIA projects for major infrastructure projects (preferably in the marine or coastal environment including all stages of EIA)
o of leading and managing and mentoring multidisciplinary teams of specialist consultants
o in the development of environmental mitigation proposals including engagement and liaison with statutory consultees
o of monitoring programmes and discharging Marine Licence conditions and DCO requirements
o in marine or coastal projects in at least one of RPS’ core sectors
• Understanding of the HRA process and other consent related assessments e.g. WFD, EPS, MCZ
• Business development and tender preparation
