JOB TITLE: Planner

We have career opportunities for Planners at all levels to join our Planning Team in our Cork office.

The successful candidates will assist in the delivery and management of projects for key public and private sector clients in Ireland.

Key Requirements
• Candidates must hold a recognised qualification in Planning;
• Have between 1–12 years satisfactory experience of planning, after attaining the qualification above;
• Experience of liaising with clients and providing advice on planning matters;
• Graduate or Corporate Membership of relevant professional organisation(s) including IPI and RTPI;
• Excellent working knowledge of planning, development and environmental issues;
• Capacity to conduct independent research along with analysis and interpretation of results;
• Ability to prepare reports and formulate recommendations;
• Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills including public presentation skills, planning and organisational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Supporting senior staff on a range of projects and taking initiative in doing so;
• Collating, analysing and interpreting a range of socio-economic, demographic, policy and related material;
• Writing reports, summarising analysis, findings and providing clear reasoned advice;
• Actively solving problems and developing innovative solutions;
• Attending meetings with clients / planning authorities and other stakeholders as a representative of RPS; liaising directly with other professionals pursuant to effective management and conduct of projects;
• Co-ordinating and managing projects including:
o Preparing and submitting planning applications and strategic infrastructure projects
o Preparing planning appeals
o Site appraisals
o Planning policy reviews
o Analysing and researching relating to Local Plan or policy preparation
o Co-ordinating environmental impact assessment reports
• Supporting tender preparation and other business development initiatives;
• Ensuring compliance with RPS QA procedures and
• If appropriate, providing supervision to more junior staff and assisting in their professional development.

• Be highly self-motivated and ambitious;
• Have excellent analytical skills and be able to demonstrate initiative along with creative approaches to problem solving;
• Possess a keen eye for detail;
• Ability to present reasoned advice in formal and informal environments;
• Enthusiasm, thoroughness and hard work approach;
• Be enthusiastic about Planning and how we shape our urban and rural environment;
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Capacity to work within a team and to build excellent working relationships with colleagues / clients and
• Capable of planning workload on a weekly basis and occasionally that of others.

Work Environment
Tasks are generally performed in an office setting; some field work is required to perform site visits and inspections.
