Archaeological Consultant

Last year I am pleased to be able to confirm that we delivered on our promise to liberate an archaeologist from the cold and find them a well remunerated position behind a desk. The opportunity has now come around again, this time in our Manchester office.

As before – if you are currently sat in a site hut wondering about another winter in the field or beset by all of the issues widely discussed on BAJR (poor wages, lack of career structure, lack of recognition etc) – then we have the answer – a career in RPS CgMs

RPS CgMs is the leading independent Archaeological and Heritage Consultancy in the United Kingdom. We are currently looking to recruit to enhance our established heritage team in Manchester.

What we are looking for are bright, ambitious archaeologists with previous commercial experience. You need never have written a DBA or Heritage Statement previously – but you must have an aptitude to prepare clear, commercially focused reports to a deadline. You will be supported and mentored with a view to progression to manage increasingly complex fieldwork projects – predominantly in the North/North-west but also further afield.

We can offer you a permanent position within a vibrant and expanding office. There is significant flexibility to develop within the post. If you fancy specialising in technical setting issues/ES preparation that option is open as is more conventional project management. Familiarity with CAD and ArcGIS and other standard graphics packages would be beneficial.

RPS CgMs is always interested in hearing from archaeologists looking to make a career in consultancy. If you think that you have a skill-set/client base and/or the experience to apply for a more senior position we would also be delighted to hear from you.

You should be an ACIfA or above – or be eligible to apply within 6 months and have a full driving licence. In addition to the salary and generous leave entitlement, RPS CgMs offers a contributory pension scheme and payment of relevant professional subscriptions, and a range of employee benefits as part of the RPS Group.

RPS is an equal opportunity employer.
