Safety Consultant

Main responsibilities
• Maintaining and developing lasting relationships and frameworks with clients
• Leading the delivery of safety projects in a range of high risk industries, ensuring they are completed on budget and to the client’s satisfaction
• The delivery of Safety Strategies and Reports and apply relevant good practice and industry standards
• Providing overall health and safety expertise within the dynamic multi-disciplined team.
• Organising, facilitating and/ or participating in safety studies including Safety, Health and Environment Risk Assessment (SHERA), Hazards in Construction (HAZCON), Desktop studies, HAZID, HAZOP, design reviews, optioneering studies, internal hazards studies, design safety and assurance reviews, etc
• Ensure learning from industry is highlighted and shared with design teams.
• Applying the CDM regulations within multi-disciplined engineering design teams (understanding the importance and value of CDM Risk Assessments, Design Risk Assessments and Residual Risk Register)
• Familiar with and able to compile pre-construction information and H&S File.
• Act as CDM advisor to the PC and PD
• Audit projects for CDM compliance and good practice
• Produce guidance documents and training on the legal requirements designers are responsible for (under CDM and MHSWR)
• Fire Risk Assessment experience would be useful
• Understanding the commercial impact of all decisions, recognising opportunities for business development
• Must be able to plan workload across multiple projects
• Work proactively to promote a positive safety culture within the design teams
• Work with design teams to provide innovative approaches to design safety
• Support health and safety improvement plans and promote monthly safety topics as required
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring for team members

Skills and Qualifications required
• Industry experience
• Hold a relevant degree and NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
• Member of IOSH and be Chartered or working towards Chartership (RPS will support this application)
• Confident in liaising with design teams, clients, contractors, and other third parties as required
• Excellent customer service manner, with strong listening and interpersonal skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Be able to read and interpret CAD drawings
• Excellent technical report writing & numeracy skills
• Excellent time management & attention to detail
• Detailed understanding and working knowledge of UK regulations and standards and be able to apply them to design projects
• Knowledge of other regulatory regimes
