We have over 100 chartered Town Planners who can provide up to date advice and innovative approaches to obtaining Local Plan allocations, planning permission and other consents for all types of development.

We are successfully delivering planning applications and permissions for some of the UK’s most important strategic development sites and infrastructure projects. Our planners regularly work with the country’s other leading organisations in the development of property and infrastructure and we also provide integrated services drawing on other planning, environmental and design services offered by RPS.

Job Title Associate Planner

Job outline
Working under the strategic guidance of a Director, a Senior Associate Director is responsible for growing a profitable planning consultancy.
Main Responsibilities:
• Identify, target and win new instructions from new and existing clients
• Be able to generate 50% of own billable work
• To attend networking conferences, guest speaking at conferences, chair bespoke client events/seminars to promote the RPS brand
• Work internally with marketing and communications to promote the RPS Planning Brand on LinkedIn, articles & web news
• Regularly chair meetings directly with clients provide commercially sound advice
• Attend client pitch meetings
• Working in association with the Planning Director to provide input on major tender submissions
• Prepare fee proposals
• Report review of junior staff members
• Coordinate small/medium & large projects including coordinating project finances, overseeing the production of deliverables in line with the client’s expectations and ensuring delivery is on time
• Ensure that projects are managed to ensure good profitability
• Financial control and billing including responding to client queries and credit control queries in event of non-payment
• Line management responsibilities of senior planning staff
• Chair Planning Meetings and take a lead role in debates, and ensure their ongoing development through appropriate CPD
• Organise internal CPD sessions as required
• Assist the Planning Director where applicable on project management of multi-disciplinary teams
• Provide input into business plans and attend key planning meetings
Qualifications & Experience Required:
• An RTPI accredited Honours Degree and/or Diploma or Masters Qualification
• A full member of the Royal Town Planning Institute
• Proven business generation skills
• Excellent knowledge of a technical discipline including the current methods, legislation, techniques and guidance
• Significant experience of delivering consultancy to a range of clients
• Excellent writing skills and ability to provide robust written deliverables on behalf of the business
• Previous experience of leading meetings and brand promotion events
• Competent user of the complete Microsoft office package
• Knowledge of project management coupled with a solid understanding of financial management
• Great attention to detail and able to prioritise workload (both team and individual)
• Previous line management experience
