About RPS Contaminated Land Team

Our professional team of contaminated land specialists is part of the RPS Group PLC, an international multi-disciplinary consultancy.

We provide comprehensive, commercially focused advice in relation to the assessment and management of contaminated land across a broad range of sectors and project stages; from pre- purchase due diligence advice through to planning applications and to construction phase support. The Team delivers contaminated land solutions for a wide range of clients including residential housebuilders, commercial and renewables developers, nuclear power stations, investors, lenders, local and national government and blue chip international companies.

The Job:

We are looking for a highly motivated, Senior Environmental Consultant to join the Contaminated Land team in our central London office. You’ll need to have excellent technical understanding and solid experience in land contamination and ground engineering projects, particularly in the context of development and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project management of land contamination assessments within a range of sectors, including residential, commercial and industrial development.
• Report writing and reviewing both on a technical and commercial level.
• Proposal/tender writing and reviewing.
• Business and client development.

The skills/experience you will need are:
• Chartered or close to chartership through an appropriate and relevant professional institution (e.g. GeolSoc, ICE).
• BSc in earth sciences/environmental/ground engineering discipline.
• Solid experience in a geo-environmental role applying contaminated land risk assessment and liability principles within a consultancy context.
• Business development skills with ability to actively seek new opportunities (clients and markets).
• Experience of preliminary risk assessments, intrusive investigation design & management, quantitative risk assessments (ground gas risk, human health & controlled-waters), remedial appraisals, remedial design, supervision & verification.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, technical guidance & codes of practice.
• Experience in delivering geo-environmental services to a range of client markets and for a range of projects types (incl. due diligence, planning, site decommissioning, land remediation, construction, lease and permit surrender).
• Strong report writing & site supervision skills.
