JOB TYPE: Fixed-term

We are currently recruiting a number of Resident Engineers and Site Technicians/Clerk of Works to join our water services team supervising contracts in the Cork City area. It is expected that the project will commence in May 2018 with a likely duration of 12 months.

As a member of the Resident Engineering team you will be responsible for the delivery of the site works and construction phase of water services related projects within multidisciplinary environments.

The Role:

• Responsible for the supervision and associated contract administration of construction/survey works
• Responsible for carrying out orders and instructions from the Employer’s Representative and Senior Resident Engineer along with such other duties as may be assigned by the Client
• Assisting the Senior RE in contractual, measurement and technical matters
• Liaising with the Contractors, Local Authorities and other Stakeholders
• Monitoring of project compliance with relevant safety, statutory, environmental and waste management obligations
• Monitoring quality, progress and report on works being carried out to the Employer’s Requirements and ensure that the Employer’s Representative and Client are fully informed of all issues arising on site
• Monitoring the Contractor for compliance with the Safety Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 and in doing so utilise any associated Client related instructions or processes
• Reviewing of method statements and assessment of contractor’s engineering proposals
• Contributing to project team performance by communicating essential information, coordinating actions, reviewing open issues/action items, sharing information in team meetings while focused on project completion within timelines
• Enhancing company reputation by taking ownership over new and diverse client requests/challenges, proactively exploring opportunities to add extra value to job accomplishments

The Resident Engineer candidate will ideally have:

• honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications), or equivalent professional qualification, in engineering
• chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership
• at least 5 years’ post graduate relevant experience with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in supervising street works
• experience in administering construction contracts
• a good knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety legislation and regulations
• excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), team working skills and analytical skills
• knowledge of traffic management and underground services
• experience of undertaking/supervising water services asset surveys including pumping stations, sewers, CSO’s and flow & rainfall surveys etc (would be advantageous)
• the ability to lead and motivate, willingly take ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve the best solution
• the capacity to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations
• the skills to work in compromising situations and be able to devise new approaches to problems encountered
• excellent IT skills and familiar with relevant computer applications

The Site Technician / Clerk of Works candidate will ideally have:

• ordinary degree / diploma (level 7 in the National Framework of Qualifications), or equivalent professional qualification, in engineering
• at least 3 years’ post graduate relevant experience with at least 4 years’ relevant experience in supervising street works
• experience in administering construction contracts
• a good knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety legislation and regulations
• excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), team working skills and analytical skills
• knowledge of traffic management and underground services
• experience of undertaking/supervising water services asset surveys including pumping stations, sewers, CSO’s and flow & rainfall surveys etc (would be advantageous)
• the ability to take ownership of issues and actively contribute to team participation to achieve best solutions
• the capacity to define problems, collect data and establish facts
• excellent IT skills and familiar with relevant computer applications

Having completed the following health and safety training along with relevant certification would be a considerable advantage for these roles (state those completed in CV):

• Safe Pass
• Manual Handling
• Managing Safety in Construction (not required for Clerk of Works or Site Technician)
• 3 Day Construction Skills Certification Scheme Signing Lighting and Guarding of Roadworks
• 1 Day H&S at Road Works
• Working At Heights – Harness Training
• Confined Space Entry
