Software Development Engineer

Location – choice of RPS Water offices across UK
Hours – 40 hours per week

Salary – £30 to £40k
Contract Type – Permanent

• the exploration and production of energy and other natural resources;
• the development of infrastructure to enable the world’s population to have access to, in particular, appropriate transport, water and power resources.

The Infrastructure Business Stream, providing services across the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland, wishes to recruit a Software Development Engineer to join our Water Infrastructure team. The team is managed from Brighton; however the successful candidate could be located in any of our offices across the UK.

The candidate will have/be:

• Educated to Degree level in a scientific or technical discipline; Masters Degree preferred;
• Strong reporting and review skills are essential;
• Strong technical understanding of software platforms and system integrations;
• Demonstrable experience in water conservation, leakage control, pressure management, network management and watermains rehabilitation;
• Understanding of water company leakage analytics and regulatory reporting;
• High level of computer literacy.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing software solutions to our Water Industry clients. For the right candidate, we would be looking to develop this into a full management role within 1-2 years.

Typical duties will include:

Systems Development

• Supporting the development and maintenance of existing and proposed bespoke software tools / applications as dictated by project work;
• Production of Functional specifications detailing the:
o Software requirements;
o The data sources and inputs;
o The analysis required;
o The outputs required.
• Software testing and coordination of client release;
• Preparing and maintaining software documentation.
• Liaise with a broad range of clients and engage in development of client relationships;
• Discussing/developing project briefs with the Client in order to outline/document his or her requirements;
• Demonstrating software to clients and the provision of training;
• Acting as Project Lead or Reviewer when nominated on designated projects;
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Assisting when required in the preparation of material for the purposes of marketing, bid submissions, client preparations etc.
• Ensuring the effective flow of information between team members and participants in project activities
